Poorly constructed sewerage system has to be upgraded and maintained properly. Up to 13 lakh cubic meters of effluents are produced daily, of which only 1.2 lakh (less than 10%) cubic meters are treated daily in one sewage treatment plant. There are only 10 lifting stations for 90 wards. Presently only 20% of the population and 30% of the metropolitan area are covered under a proper sewerage system.

The mayor has to coordinate with the Dhaka WASA, Public Health and Engineering Department, the Bangladesh Government and donor agencies for an immediate initiative so that:

• The whole city corporation area can come under a complete and adequate sewerage system.
• The City Corporation shall coordinate and cooperate with DWASA to expedite three ongoing sewerage projects as well as early completion of various other projects, including projects under planning.
