Apart from historical inheritances like the mosques, old bazaars, colonial buildings and the river front of Dhaka that characterize its older parts, like every growing city, inevitably tends to acquire in the process of extension and modernization a discernible character and a destiny of its own. It is the duty of the city mayor to highlight that character and shape that destiny. Since Dhaka City is the face of the nation, that destiny cannot but reflect the tremendous national urge for human development, community life and good order.
