Rivers, Lakes and Khals (Canals)

In cooperation with the government, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Planning, relevant NGOs, Civil Society Organizations and Citizens’ Committees, the City Corporation should take necessary steps to:
- save the river Buriganga from further encroachment;
- recover “illegally encroached” parts of the river;
- contain sources of pollution on the Buriganga by penal measures, bringing the present level of water pollution down to an acceptable level;
- obtain necessary enactment to reserve all future accretions to river banks for parks and recreational spots and, in addition -
- Dholaikhal and other khals shall be rehabilitated. On both banks there should be walking space, parks and recreation facilities;
- All lakes should be rehabilitated, and on all sides, parks, walking lanes, gardens and recreation centres should be established.
